So you want to share devices or information between computing systems?
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will discuss with you the positive and negative sides of  home networking computer systems and peripherals.  Care will be taken to share issues on distance and construction materials when transmitting data wirelessly in homes, and potential issues that could come up, with possible solutions.  The representative will also discuss the use of an optional print server to place a standard printer on a network, independently of a computer system.

The usual time to discuss a customer's needs and desires for a new system varies, but is generally less than 1 hour

Virus/Adware/Spyware Removal and Microsoft system updates
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will update any Virus/Adware/Spyware software installed on customer's computer system (if software subscription is required, representative will update only current subscriptions).   If Virus/Adware/Spyware is not installed, free versions of  these types of software downloaded from the Internet from known company websites will be installed with the customer's agreement.  System will then be scanned and any viruses or malware will be removed if possible.  System will also be updated to the latest operating system patch level using Microsoft's web update web page.  System may be removed from customer's premises if high-speed Internet connection is not available.  Note that WiseGuy Consulting is not responsible for the integrity of the operating system, any applications,  or customer data while doing any remediation.  No customer training will be done during this consultation.

The usual time to repair an infected system varies greatly, but is generally 4 to 8  hours.  However, this time can exceed 12 - 16 hours if no virus protection is installed on the system initially.  In extreme cases, the system may have to be completely reloaded to remediate a severely infected system.

Install and Configure a Wireless Network into your home
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will install a wireless router (supplied by customer) and network it with up to 2 computer systems with wireless network adapters (PCI or PCM-CIA laptop cards, also furnished by customer).  Security levels will be set based on the minimum common version applicable to wireless cards.  Instructions on how to reset settings in case of power failure or re-establish connections between router and computer systems will be furnished to customer.  Note that this service may be combined with "Configure your computer or network router for Internet Access", however, if customer has existing high-speed Internet capability, the router will be configured into their existing network or single PC that has access to the high-speed connection.

The usual time to configure a router and 2 computers using the same operating system varies, but is generally 1 to 2 hours.

Configure your computer or network router/gateway for Internet Access
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will assist customer in the installation of a customer supplied high-speed connection (DSL, cable or other wireless high-speed).   The WiseGuy technical representatie will install the software supplied by the Internet access provider, assist in the creation of a user account for the provider (if not specified), and will then configure a router/gateway or single computer to access the Internet via the providers connection.  The WiseGuy representative can, at customer request, also configure one email software application for a single email address.  Note that this configuration does not include training in the email application, nor does it include any training in use of a browser or other related Internet software.  Instructions on how to reset computer or router settings in case of power failure or re-establish connection using the provider's connection will be furnished to customer.  Note that if the connection is made via high-speed and the Internet provider supplies an emergency dial up account, this dial up access will also be configured as part of the installation at the customer's request, if representative is notified in advance and does work during same visit.  Note that this service can be combined with "Install and Configure a Wireless Network into your home" to allow the configuration of multiple computer systems, DVR's, etc.  Customer is required to provide all wireless hardware.


The usual time to configure a router or computer to connect to a high-speed connection varies, but is generally less than 1 hour.  More time will need to be allotted if multiple computer systems are configured for Internet access.

Data Migration from Old System to New System
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will assist a customer in the migration of data from one Windows-based PC to another via a network.  A WiseGuy technical representative will bring network hardware to assist in this process and will install these devices in systems as necessary; hardware will remain the property of WiseGuy Consulting and Technical Training.  Data locations must be known by the customer, and new moint points will be created on new system as needed. 

The usual time to migrate data from one system to another varies greatly as it is based on the amount of data to transfer.  Time can exceed 2 hours.

Complete System Re-Install
At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will assist reinstall the operating system of a PC.  Customer will be required to provide the original CDs or disks and licenses of the software to be installed.  Hardware may require driver software.  The provided operating system will be patched based on patches available from Microsoft's Windows Update web site.  Applications will be reinstalled based on customer request and provided license and software.  System reload will be done offsite; there will be no-charges for pickup or delivery of the system within the local area.   Note that WiseGuy Consulting is not responsible for the integrity of any applications or customer data while doing a system reinstall.  No customer training will be done during this consultation.  We will do our best to obtain drivers for included hardware if driver software is not provided, however, no guarantees are implied.

The usual time to completely install the operating system and all updates for a computer system varies greatly and can exceed 8 hours.  An estimate of charges will be provided, and frequent communication to the customer on status will be provided.  Note that the WiseGuy representative may offer alternatives to a complete system reinstall, if the provided system hardware or operating system is significantly aged.

At an hourly rate, a WiseGuy representative will assist customer in the installation or removal of most software products (product not included).  If the product is not something commonly used, an advance notification of 3 to 4 weeks may be required so that the representative can properly be prepared to train you in proper operation of the product.  WiseGuy Consulting reserves the right to refuse this offering, if the software is not commonly used, or proper documentation is not available.  Proof of ownership is required for installation of software (generally this means that you have original disks or CD's and a license key).

The usual time to remove or install and configure a software product varies, but is generally 1 to 2  hours.

Just want someone you trust to talk to when you need assistance with technology?
For a flat annual fee, a WiseGuy representative can assist you in basically anything related to computing or consumer electronics.  Quoting of this offering will be based on specific products currently installed in a computing system(s) or located on the customers premises at the time the contract is signed by both parties.  A contract can also include future products to be purchased, but product type must be included in contract specifics, i.e. HDTV (and not specifically a Sony Model XYZ123, although if a specific model of a product type is known when contract is drawn, it can be included).  Hours of contract will be normal business hours, M-F 9AM - 5PM, and onsite visits scheduled as necessary as part of contract specifications.
